Rotating Shifts Can Affect Sleep
When dealing with a snoring problem, you could be faced with one of two issues: primary snoring or the more sinister Obstructive Sleep Apnea, or OSA. To understand the differences between these two types of snoring, you must understand exactly how the snoring process works.
Additionally, it is important to understand the difference because while primary snoring can simply be an irritant to your partner, Obstructive Sleep Apnea can lead to other significant health problems, and in some cases can even be deadly!
If you work at a factory or at a job that requires you to rotate shifts during the month or the year, you have probably experiences sleep issues in the past. Rotating shifts can affect your sleep. Here are some tips for workers that rotate their shifts and how to best adjust.
While rotating shifts can affect sleep, there are some actions that can lessen the strain and help you return to a normal sleep pattern. Most people are not comfortable working past a certain time, and working the overnight shift or third shift can be extremely difficult for many. Unfortunately many do not have a choice when it comes to their job.
If you are working rotating shifts, you should plan ahead for sleep especially when working the third shift. Most people are fine when they work 9-5 and even the second shift from 4- 12, but if you are working overnight, make sure that you have a quiet and comfortable place to sleep when you return home. A comfortable bed and good set of shades should do the trick.
Keep away from strong stimulants. If you use too many stimulants especially during the last few hours on the job, they may stay in your system and keep you up well into the early afternoon. Try to stick to mild stimulants such as caffeine and stay away from stronger over the counter medication unless it is necessary.
Most people usually snack throughout the night buying candy from the vending machines, but not only will you gain weight from all the calories in might contribute to fatigue. If you have to eat during the night, the best types of food are protein and water or juice. They don’t contain stimulants and they will not contribute to your fatigue.
